Phillips Collection by Mark & Julie Phillips
Phillips Collection was founded in 1983 by Mark and Julie Phillips. Mark’s parents—Larry & Sherry—were intrepid travelers and collectors of Southeast Asian statues. It was this passion for travel and love for rural artisans that sparked Phillips Collection. They evolved from a company of discovery—sourcing teak daybeds, bronze statues and home accessories—to a company of design. Their work used not only for residential projects but also for restaurants, clubs, high end retail stores and even movie sets. You may have seen our green seat belt chairs in The Hunger Games.
"Our two main categories are all about a style we coined as organic contemporary. Origins is a collection of reclaimed roots from exotic trees in the north of Thailand and remote islands of the Indonesian archipelago. We unearth them, cut them judiciously into all types of tables and sculptures, and then mark them as one-of-a-kind objets d’art."
"The other main category for us takes cues from Origins and is called Cast Metallics. This is when we find special forms and create a casting which allows us to consistently produce the same form in a multitude of finishes. The benefits include lighter weight and cost, but also additional applications like outdoor. Our silver leaf finish is our most popular, but we are always looking to new technology to give us broader options. Most recently we developed a finish we call liquid metal which allows our pieces to work outdoors with a polished sheen."
