The ultra modern decomposable cottage by Matteo Avaltroni

Ancona, Marche Region, Italy. 2014-2015

The ultra modern ‘Cottage’ by Matteo Avaltroni Architetto was built as an aftermath to the severe floodings that hit Ancona, Marche Region in 2013. In order to safe guard this new build from any future devastations, it has been fully raised from the ground, and even more interstingly has been built out of completely decomposable materials.

Due to lack of time after the devastation, the build was given a very short execution time. Therefore the structure of the cottage was built soley out of dry materials. These materials include: steel, wooden, slabs and fibrocement panels.

The south facing side features an extended roof built for the sole purpose of shade and shelter from the summer sun. The contrasting colours and materials however make this a focal point to the build, adding it's own uniqueness and character.

Natural lighting plays a huge role in this build. With large windows scattered right around the building providing plenty of natural sunlight available, there is almost no need to any artificial lighting during the day.
